Year Round Charleston Fishing
With year round fishing, Charleston, South Carolina provides anglers with a wonderful fishing experience no matter when they may come. The peak fishing season, however, is from the month of March to October. During this time, you have an increased likelihood of catching the assorted fish species in the area, as well as increasing the likelihood of finding yourself reeling in a big one!
In the summer time, flats fishing, which is fishing in the shallow waters, is the preferred way to catch redfish. Your charter captain may take you out to oyster bars or other structures, be they man-made or natural, where you will be able to look out and sometimes see the fish swimming through the waters beneath you. This is also a good way to catch trout, spot-tail bass, croaker, Striped Bass, Cobia, and Tarpon in the spring and summer months. As fun as flats fishing can be we do not offer flats fishing in Charleston as we specialize in larger fish that live in the much deeper waters off the Charleston coast.
But if it's tuna you are looking to find on the end of your line, November and early December ranks as usually the best time to catch them. While trolling is generally the most used method for catching these fish, chunking can also make for an amazing tuna trip when the fish are biting by providing multiple hook-ups, with the fish taking the bait close to the boat.
And if offshore fishing is your cup of tea, Charleston fishing provides an exciting assortment of fish, including Amberjack, Barracuda, Dolphin, King Mackerel, Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, and Wahoo, just to name some. With such a wide variety of fish to snatch, you should have an excellent time fishing in the Gulfstream. And if those still do not strike your fancy, there are even swordfishing trips available, allowing you to fish specifically for this classic trophy fish. There is nothing quite like the experience of catching and mounting a swordfish in your house as a testament to the great time you had fishing in Charleston.
Charleston Vacation Activities
As for other activities in Charleston, South Carolina, there are any number of sights to see and things to do in this wonderful city. While you are out fishing with your friends, the rest of the family might enjoy spending the day at the Citadel Mall, located on Rittenberg Boulevard. This mall houses many stores and has an excellent food court. Besides the malls Charleston has, there are plenty of beach and boating activities in the Charleston area.
Or if you are looking for a historical landmark, you can take a tour of Fort Sumter. It was here at this historical fort that the first shots of the American Civil War were fired. But perhaps the most worthy activities to mention is seeing the USS Yorktown, an Essex-class aircraft carrier. This United States Navy carrier server in the Pacific Ocean during World War II and now functions as a museum in the Charleston Harbor.
